Same here Greybeard - Thanks for the pointer to the download section. Since I removed StarForce ERT runs much better, no bounces or skips in the graphics.

If starforce is not problematic, then why is there a utility on this very forum to clean it off?
My CD rom is no a RW. My computer is not old, I have the recommended hardware. yet it would take 3 or 4 (long) attempts to get the program to load...so I cleaned it with the utility and now it loads first time every time.
That STF tool is to remove the driver when you uninstall E:RT (and other games that is using STF) removing the STF driver while still having STF protected games installed is NOT recomended!

it seemed to work. Starforce is one of the most annoying bits of software I have come accross in a long time. It was either try the clean utility or throw the computer out the window. I rarely have to wait for 3-4 trys to load now.

It depends on how you phrase the question.. if your equipment is new and working in good condition, yet you phrase it like this :
"if stf is not problematic.. etc etc"
Then maybe perfectly good working cdrom drives are not all made identical, and there are some that work perfectly well, until they are faced with a protection scheme that asks your cdrom to read between the tracks, or extended tracks, or in hidden tracks on a cdrom disk, or specially formatted encrypted tracks.. not all cdrom drives have features exactly the same. So therefore it is to prevent "you" from having headaches trying to figure out whether it is your cdrom drive, or whether it is stf.
Either way, fortunately for all of us.. we dont have to worry about it with the current versions we play on.. so it's ok to just clean it out and move forward.

Indeed a small problem in a great game.

Starforce is a problem, no matter what the fanboys say. Just because some people don't seem to have problems, doesn't mean there aren't any. I'll give you a couple of items to mull over to support this.
First, UbiSoft, one of Starforce's largest supporter/customers, has dropped Starforce from their future games.
Second, Starforce themselves recommends that producers/developers issue a patch to remove their protection after a few patch cycles "to enhance system stability", etc..
Check out the SH3 forums for more info.
I'm waiting for Enigma and SH3 to remove starforce before I install them on my system.

considering the way starforce has been handling both its pr and product upgrades, we will no longer use starforce in our products.

That's something to promote.
Spread the word, people. Let everyone who passed on ERT because of it, know that it's not going to be a problem in Chapter 2.

This is indeed
GREAT news East!
I agree with Theta Sigma's post above that this should be spread around, especially since we were expecting Chapter 2 to be using Starforce.
I also think it would be good to let everyone know what form of, if any, copy protection will be used when you decide. I am certain that as long as it is not intrusive and draconian like Starforce, customers will be much happier and it will increase word-of-mouth advertising. I'm now eagerly waiting to put my money down for Chapter 2.

I find it amusing that this thread was cited on an sf forum:
